Description:
”Suddalaiyadi” in Indian dictionary of mythology refers to ”A dancer who dances on the ashes of cemeteries”. It is one name of SHIVA`s names (The Indian goddess of dance, love and deconstruction ) . The performance is based on a Fantasy story about one moment of a monk`s lif
e who lives and works in a temple. His religious duty/practice is to burn dead bodies at that temple. One night while making fire under a corpse, he thought that the corpse does not burn, but he dances inside the fire…
According to a belief in India, in kally ages in the future! when hearts of people completely are dead and turned to cemetery, Shiva will start his dance in the hearts of people (cemeteries). Then he will destroy the world through his madly movements.
The Monk of This story is victim of his believes. He has to choose between to die by a quick death or suffering while waiting for death to come.
About the choreography:
- Tandava is one of those darknature dances which will be done by Shery Nataraga - Shiva - in kally ages. The aim of dance is to destroy the world. In this dance, madly motions of shiva are symbols for love for liberty.
Text:
It was night and I saw a dead body in the gloomy cemetery, which was running and dancing and continually killing himself, again and again. Dying and dancing, dancing and dying, dancing on the ashes of cemetery. His name`s “Suddalaiyadi”.
Finally he rested on the ashes of himself and fire suppressed, but I did not find any comfort, anymore. Because I had seen a dead body dancing with fire, in fire, like fire. So, I will run till the end of the world. To escape…., escape…, escape…..
_Thou, who like the cemeteries!
I have built a cemetery in my heart. So, that thow, whose place is in the cemeteries, could perform thy eternal dance.
Oh, mother, there is nothing inside my heart except you.
The fire of death melting days and nights, and the ashes of dead scattered all around.
I have resisted over unpleasant with the hope of you coming.
Shelter in my heart, and perform your rhythmical dance, so, that I can see you with eyes of my heart.
_ I burnt.
I burnt.
I burnt.
My hands, my eyes, my feet.
I danced, without feet and hands.
Burnt and danced, danced and burnt.
My dance was not a dance, it was a pain.
It was not a dance, it was fire and darkness.
I burnt.
I burnt…
